Flyer for Disability Listening Session

On April 4, people with disabilities are invited to speak freely to
journalists about their top news coverage priorities.


Storyburgh and Unabridged Press are co-hosting the event with sponsorship from the Bridge Pittsburgh Media Partnership at the Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University. News partners include PublicSource and the Northside Chronicle.


“As a disabled woman, I am frequently troubled by the language used to describe disability in the media,” says Alisa Grishman, founder of the event’s community partner, Access Mob Pittsburgh. “Terms like ‘wheelchair-bound’ and ‘no longer suffering’ still abound, and this forum
will be an opportunity for journalists to learn how to better serve our community.”
